As a standard, KARO recommends pine wood, but, at a Customer’s request, we also offer oak wood or meranti...
1. 1st class pine timber, obtained exclusively from pine growing in forests near Olsztyn in Warmia, with narrow (1-2 mm) annual growth rings, which makes wood harder, more durable and stronger. Material obtained from outside the north-east of Poland, with 5-6 mm rings, provides windows of inferior quality.
We can use such wood with narrow rings and no defects not only because of the harsh climate of Warmia (120-150 -year-old trees are felled; and winters at that time were really severe) and its poor sandy soils, but also owing to the sustainable forest management of the National Forests, it is esteemed throughout Europe.
The production process at our firm is based on top quality plywood and 1st class butt ends, which enables us to make wooden laminate which is more durable (large frames) and, equally importantly, stable (it does not warp!). Subframes are glued together in 3 or 4 layers from planks without such defects as snags, twisted fibres, resin bubbles and others. In this way, we remove any internal stresses which accompany such defects and which can be the cause of warps.
We make our windows from solid laminate, that is, without finger joints connecting shorter planks to make longer ones, in visible layers. We do not use another type of laminate, connected in 3 or 4 layers, because of the real risk of tarnishing finished windows in the finger joints area. Connected pieces of wood can move against each other during the first year of use, and finger joints can have a negative effect on the appearance of the product if it is covered with a transparent coat.
2. 1st class oak timber obtained from nearby forests (the Warmiński Forest). It is a perfect material for making premium quality windows. Excellent, hard, stable and highly durable wood, with characteristic patterns, is a dream material available not only to connoisseurs.
3. Meranti - leafy timber from plantations in South-East Asia. It shares many characteristics of oak timber, but it is classified as being between pine and oak wood due to the great variety of densities and hues. Meranti with the highest density > 450 kg/m3 is recommended for the production of windows.
Attention! Meranti is not mahogany!
We offer our customers a possibility of evaluating the wood in their window frames before the frames are painted!!!
